Discover San Pedro. San Pedro Alcántara is a town in the province of Malaga, Andalusia, Spain. The current population has its origin in the San Pedro Alcántara Agricultural Colony, founded in 1860 by the politician and military man Manuel Gutiérrez de la Concha e Irigoyen, I Marqués del Duero, one of the most important and modern in Spain from the 19th century.

Today San Pedro Alcántara is a tourist town on the Costa del Sol, surrounded by urban developments and well equipped with services and infrastructures.

The town maintains the name of the San Pedro Alcántara Agricultural Colony founded in 1860 by the Marqués del Duero. The emblems of the founding period used the image of the saint from Extremadura, San Pedro de Alcántara, surrounded by farm implements, with a border of sugar cane and the motto “virtue and work”. The daughter of the Marqués de Duero was baptized as Petra de Alcántara Gutiérrez de la Concha (1846-1908). The wife of the Marquis, on whose previous patrimony the colony was founded, was Francisca de Paula Tovar y Pueguera Amat de La Gasca (1803-1871), VII Marquesa de Revilla, VI Countess of Cancelada and IX Countess of Lences, titles that would inherit their daughter and that give name to three of the streets of the primitive nucleus of San Pedro Alcántara that are Lagasca street (initially La Gasca), Revilla street and Pizarro street (for the assets of the Marquis of the Conquest for which they sued to be recognized heir ) and also the neighborhood of Cancelada.
